Print of a jackrabbit and its scorpion friend in front of the moon that I designed.
Living in the California desert, we don’t have naturally occurring Rowan or Yew trees, the spring isn’t marked by the return of the doe with her fawns. As Mabon isn’t a celebration of second harvest, but rather a celebration of the cooling of our nights, the snow hare isn’t available as a familiar, but the JackRabbit is. The JackRabbit is there with its wise eyes taking in the proceeding of the seasons, with its direct connection to the land through those strong back legs, with its all-hearing ears reaching for the sky. The JackRabbit provides us with a reminder that it is possible to be simultaneously grounded and lifted, practical and intuitive, pragmatic and idealistic. This JackRabbit has brought its fellow night dweller, the scorpion, to their lunar sabbath, as well as our locally abundant greasewood. Join your familiars in a celebration of the night and all things over the hedge.
